The Perfect gift for a creative loved one
Stuck for gift ideas? Why not buy a craft workshop at the Red House Glass Cone. Treat someone to a half or full day of making and creating handmade items in glass, ceramic or metal . We have courses available in fused glass, lampwork glass bead making, glass engraving, kiln glass painting, pottery and traditional jewellery making. One on one tuition (unless you want to book along with some friends) means the lesson will be suited to the individual’s needs and experience.
Some examples of the workshops available:
If you purchase Jane Ellis’ glass fusing course, the student will learn how to cut and layer glass to make some coasters or a wall hanger and if you chose the full day; a bowl and some jewellery too. All fired and slumped to achieve the best results.
With years of experience; Sarah Cordingley teaches some great techniques for making beautiful lampwork glass beads. The amount of beads made does depend on how easily the person attending, takes to the process. This it is a fun filled creative experience and everyone will come away with work they can be proud of.
In this one day workshop, students will be taught the basics of hand engraving glass by artist Charlotte H Martin. The class will cover technique and pattern, with students having the choice of creating their own designs or working with one of Charlotte’s many images. Our aim is to make this ancient art accessible to anyone who likes to draw, doodle, write or make marks.

This is a brilliant contemporary glass course, taught by Charlotte, using techniques that are a couple of millennia old! The fantastic glass pieces the student will create will not fade or alter over time. They will be permanently beautiful for the next 1000 years (just don’t drop it!) Within the workshop the student will learn how to cut glass safely, and different paint application techniques. The class will use our own method of glass painting, which gives a beautifully subtle three dimensional effect to the piece created.
In this class Josephine will teach how to use traditional tools and jewellery making techniques. The student will firstly choose their design from a variety of samples, they will then be taken through the jewellery making process step by step until they have a beautiful, professional looking piece of silver jewellery to take home with them.
All featured courses and more can be booked on the Creative Cone website and are held at the Red House Glass Cone, Wordsley. This historic location is an amazing place to attend these courses and time can be spent exploring the visitors centre and other craft studios or having your lunch by the canal or in the onsite cafe.
You can choose to book the workshops as a gift option from the drop down menu on the workshop page. Once booked a handmade gift card will be posted to you, 1st class, containing information about the workshop for you to hand to the gift recipient. They will then be free to ring the artist to book on a day that suits. If there is not enough time to get a gift card to you by post before Christmas we will send you an email containing welcome information about the gift that you can forward to your loved one.
