Itching for etching?! This fantastic glass engraving course is taught by glass artist Charlotte Hughes-Martin. In this etching workshop you will learn how to design and engrave your very own picture bowl.

The workshop will cover technique and pattern, with students having the choice of creating their own designs or working with one of Charlotte’s many images. Our aim is to make this ancient art accessible to anyone who likes to draw, doodle, write or make marks. Learn the basics and the possibilities of engraving. ​You will learn to engrave on both flat glass and then create a personalised glass bowl to take home. This is a fun workshop – ideal for beginners.

This creative class is a perfect experience to share with friends and family and would make a fantastic gift for a creative loved one. The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting. The studio is well equipped, and has an inspiring, creative atmosphere and of course is based at the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You could have lunch sitting by the canal or try our on site cafe. Take a walk around the beautiful historic building and visit the numerous other craft studios on site.

All materials and tools will be provided. No previous knowledge required. Please insure that you wear fully closed shoes and practical clothing.

Fancy getting creative with glass? Whether you have had a go at fused glass before or are a complete beginner, come along and turn your designs into a piece of art you’ll be proud of!

During the 2 hour session you will be shown how to cut and layer glass and also how to produce your pieces from your own ideas. With a variety of colours and forms of glass and techniques available for you to use you can be as adventurous as you want!

You will be shown how to safely use the tools and equipment and then it’s over to you (along with help and advice along the way) to turn your ideas into art!

​The courses are held on the site of the Red House Glass Cone, near Stourbridge in the heart of the Glass Quarter. You can spend some time looking around the site, glass blowing demonstrations are held weekend afternoons. There is also a coffee shop on site but tea and coffee will be provided.

​Your pieces will need to fired over night, but will be available for collection a few days after the course. Or they can be posted for a small additional postage fee.

Fused Glass Workshops

Jane Ellis runs fused glass taster workshops between 10-4 full day and 1pm – 4pm half day.  These sessions are for beginners. You don’t need to have ever cut a piece of glass to attend. Jane will talk you through all the processes needed to create your own unique piece of glass.

You can either make one of your own creations into a wall hanger, make a set of 2 coasters a small dish, or follow one of the pre created projects if you need a little help. If there is time you can also use some of the off cuts to make a necklace.

The sessions are for one or two people (one ticket per person) so the tuition is very focused on you and what you want to achieve in the time. A larger group can be catered for but please contact us with details.

The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting. The Glass Quarter Designs studio is well equipped, and has an inspiring, creative atmosphere and of course is based at the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You will learn the techniques for creating a vase to be proud of. Craft a lasting memory in glass via a creative process that has been passed down since the time of the Egyptians.

With expert tuition from glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin, you will make your very own hand blown glass bud vase. Maybe get some friends and family to join you and make a day of it.
