Glass Blowing Experience, Blow your Own Easter Egg

9.30am – 12pm & 1pm – 3.30pm

Want to have a go at glass blowing? This courses is a great introduction to the art. In a small group of people, you will be shown how to correctly and safely handle hot glass and the techniques for creating your own glass Easter egg to be proud of year after year or to give as a gift.

With expert tuition from glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin, you will make your very own hand blown glass Easter egg. Maybe get some friends and family to join you and make a nice day of it. The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting inside the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You could have lunch sitting by the canal or try our on site cafe. Take a walk around the beautiful historic building and visit the numerous other craft studios on site.

All materials and tools will be provided. No previous knowledge required. Please ensure you wear fully closed shoes and practical clothing.

Printmaking Workshop

This fantastic print making workshop is run at the wonderful Ruskin Craft Centre. You can choose from 5 print disciplines; linocut, engraving, dry-point, mono-type and collagraph.

Saturdays, 10.30am – 4pm.

Artist Mike Allison has a printmaking workshop at the Ruskin Craft Centre. He specialises in relief printmaking, in particular engraving and linocuts. He also offers tuition in collagraph, drypoint and monotype.

Mike has exhibited his prints widely and is a past chair of Birmingham printmakers.  He is currently working on 100 views of Birmingham, using a combination of relief printmaking techniques.
Mike offers workshops to groups of two people at a time on Saturdays. The sessions are from 10.30am – 4pm and cost £110 for the session (1 person is £110, two people pay £55 each). Participants can choose from linocut, engraving, dry-point, mono-type and collagraph. Please get in touch here to arrange a Saturday that suits.

Join glass bead artist Sarah Cordingley for a wonderfully creative, fun-filled day/half day learning the great techniques for making lampwork glass beads. On this workshop Sarah will take you through bead making techniques including spots, twists and the use of glass frits. It’s then over to you to have a go yourself.

Your beads will be annealed in the kiln and will be available for you to collect the following week or we can post your beads to you for a small charge. Torch time is available at an hourly rate once you’ve graduated!

What’s included in the price?
The courses are held at Studio 14 on the site of the Red House Glass Cone, near Stourbridge in the heart of the Glass Quarter. You can spend some time looking around the site, glass blowing demonstrations are held weekend afternoons. There is also a coffee shop on site but tea and coffee will be provided.

Make Your Own Crystal Paperweight

Join this workshop and leave having made your very own lead crystal paperweight. In a small group of 6 people, you will be shown how to correctly and safely handle hot glass. You will learn the techniques for creating a glass paper weight, adding colour, bubbles and swirls in your design. Craft a lasting memory in glass via a creative process that has been passed down since the time of the Ancient Phoenicians.

With expert tuition from glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin, you will make your very own crystal paperweight. Maybe invite some friends or family to join you and make a nice day of it? The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting inside the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. Fused Glass Picture Workshop

Fancy getting creative with glass in a fun and relaxed environment? Whether you have had a go at fused glass art before or are a complete beginner, this workshop is a great way to learn a variety of glass fusing techniques and to meet some new creative people, come along and make a beautiful fused glass picture to be proud of.

In the morning session we will discuss and design your ideas, create the background using glass powders frits and metals. Then later we will use all the different glass colours, equipment and techniques available in our studio including lampwork torches, to bring your pictures to life.

You will be shown how to safely use the tools and equipment and then it’s over to you (along with help and advice along the way) to turn your ideas into art!
