On this workshop you will have an introduction to glass bead making (also known as lampwork). Glass artist Sarah Cordingley will take you through bead making techniques including spots, twists and use of glass frits. It’s then over to you to have a go yourself. As part of a small friendly group of 4. You will get plenty of help from Sarah.

Your beads will be annealed in the kiln overnight and then will be available for you to collect the following week. We can post your beads to you for a small extra charge. Torch time is available at an hourly rate once you’ve graduated!

What’s included in the price?

The courses are held at Glass Quarter Designs, Studio 14 on the site of the Red House Glass cone, near Stourbridge in the heart of the Glass Quarter. You can spend some time looking around the site, glass blowing demonstrations are held weekend afternoons. There is also a coffee shop on site but tea and coffee will be provided.

    We had a lampwork glass bead class with Sarah at the beginning of the year - and had great fun! Sarah is a good teacher - I'm not crafty, but came away with a lovely necklace and bag charm which I'm proud to say I made! We'll definitely be back for more! - March 22, 2018

During this half day workshop, you will make a beautiful heart hanger using vintage crockery pieces and glass with various effects.

Sarah will demonstrate how to safely use the tools and equipment, to cut and shape the crockery and glass. Then you can pick the colours and design the hanger. Sarah will talk you through the mosaicing process from designing, arranging, gluing and grouting.

The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting. The Glass Quarter Designs studio is well equipped, and has an inspiring, creative atmosphere and of course is based at the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You could have lunch sitting by the canal or try our on site cafe. Take a walk around the beautiful historic building and visit the numerous other craft studios on site.

All materials and tools will be provided. No previous knowledge required. Please ensure you wear fully closed shoes and practical clothing.

Printmaking Workshop

This fantastic print making workshop is run at the wonderful Ruskin Craft Centre. You can choose from 5 print disciplines; linocut, engraving, dry-point, mono-type and collagraph.

Artist Mike Allison has a printmaking workshop at the Ruskin Craft Centre. He specialises in relief printmaking, in particular engraving and linocuts. He also offers tuition in collagraph, drypoint and monotype.

Mike has exhibited his prints widely and is a past Chair of Birmingham Printmakers.  He is currently working on 100 views of Birmingham, using a combination of relief printmaking techniques.
Mike offers workshops to groups of two people at a time on Saturdays. The sessions are from 10.30am – 4pm and cost £110 for the session (1 person is £110, 2 people pay £55 each). Participants can choose from linocut, engraving, dry-point, mono-type and collagraph. Please get in touch here to arrange a Saturday that suits.

Want to have a go at glass blowing? This courses is a great introduction to the art. In a small group of people, you will be shown how to correctly and safely handle hot glass and the techniques for creating your own drinking vessel.

With expert tuition from glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin, you will make your very own hand blown glass. Crushed Glass Dish Workshop

This workshop is a great way to get involved in fused glass if you’re nervous about cutting glass. During the workshop you will use glass frit to create a beautiful colourful fused glass dish.
Jane will demonstrate how to use the tools and equipment safely. If you want to cut the shape of your dish yourself, jane will demonstrate the techniques. However if you are a little nervous, Jane can help. Then using and layering smashed glass and frit you will be able to apply a bold colourful design.

Your pieces will need to fired over night, but will be available for collection a few days after the course. Or they can be posted for a small additional postage fee.
