Join this workshop and leave having made your very own lead crystal paperweight. In a small group of 6 people, you will be shown how to correctly and safely handle hot glass. You will learn the techniques for creating a glass paper weight, adding colour, bubbles and swirls in your design. Craft a lasting memory in glass via a creative process that has been passed down since the time of the Ancient Phoenicians.

With expert tuition from glass artist Charlotte Hughes Martin, you will make your very own crystal paperweight. Maybe invite some friends or family to join you and make a nice day of it? The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting inside the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You could have lunch sitting by the canal or try our on site cafe. Take a walk around the beautiful historic building and visit the numerous other craft studios on site.

All materials and tools will be provided. No previous knowledge required. Please ensure you wear fully closed shoes and practical clothing.

Your pieces will need to fired over night, but will be available for collection a few days after the course. Or they can be posted for a small additional postage fee

On this wonderfully creative and fun workshop you will learn the techniques of lampwork glass bead making. This intimate workshop of 4 people is suitable for complete beginners and those wanting to improve their skills. During this session, Sarah will take you through techniques such as creating stripes of colour, encasing to create a magnified pattern, spots, swirls and much more! Choose the colours you would like to use from our glass store and by the end of the session you will have made a unique glass bead necklace to be proud of.

Your beads will be annealed in the kiln and will be available for you to collect the following week or we can post your beads for a small charge.

​The courses are held on the site of the Red House Glass Cone, near Stourbridge in the heart of the Glass Quarter. You can spend some time looking around the site, glass blowing demonstrations are held weekend afternoons. There is also a coffee shop on site but tea and coffee will be provided.

Vintage crockery & Glass Mosaic hanger

During this half day workshop, you will make a beautiful heart or bird hanger using vintage crockery pieces and glass. Sarah will demonstrate how to safely use the tools and equipment, to cut and shape the crockery and glass. You can then pick the colours and design your piece. Sarah will talk you through the mosaicking process from designing, arranging, gluing to grouting the finished piece.

The class is made even more enjoyable simply by the setting. The Glass Quarter Designs studio is well equipped, and has an inspiring, creative atmosphere and of course is based at the wonderful Red House Glass Cone. You could have lunch sitting by the canal or try our on site cafe. Take a walk around the beautiful historic building and visit the numerous other craft studios on site.

Engraved Picture Bowl

Itching for etching?! This fantastic glass engraving course is taught by glass artist Charlotte Hughes-Martin. In this etching workshop you will learn how to design and engrave your very own picture bowl.

The workshop will cover technique and pattern, with students having the choice of creating their own designs or working with one of Charlotte’s many images. Our aim is to make this ancient art accessible to anyone who likes to draw, doodle, write or make marks. Learn the basics and the possibilities of engraving. ​You will learn to engrave on both flat glass and then create a personalised glass bowl to take home. This is a fun workshop – ideal for beginners.
